Well, here we are. Word has gotten out that our idea is becoming real, and lets be honest, it is not the most conventional way of living. So along with our planning comes a LOT of questions, from our living situation, why we chose this, and whats happening after. So lets address all the things that make us crazy…. or awesome!
Whose crazy idea was this?
Mine! Kristin! The quiet, reserved, change-hater, non-risk taker of the bunch! Perhaps that’s why I have always had a fascination with this crazy lifestyle.
What put that crazy idea into your head?
When we purchased our current travel trailer, 1 1/2 years ago, it was a great time for me to point out my love for this type of travel and the idea of doing it for an extended length of time to David, he fell in LOVE with it!
Are you selling your house?
Yes! This comes at a great point in our lives where we knew we would be moving homes. We love our home, but it has felt small since our Big Ben (#3) came along!
Is David quitting his job?
No! Piloting is awesome, he can commute from anywhere. Does this mean he is gone a lot? Yes…. and will he be gone while we are traveling? Yes…. so will I be alone some? Yes…. but the upside is, we have found in our planning that we know SO many lovely families around the USA. I will hardly be without another adult… and self defense!
Are you homeschooling?
Eek! Yes! Probably the most anxiety producing question. But because of the technology we have, the kids will be doing a mix of a curriculum for math/reading/writing as well as “roadschooling”. What that means is, we will be studying the things we will be visiting and learning by experiences.
You must really love your kids. How will you deal in a small space?
I fully agree, living quarters are tight, but one philosophy of living that our current society does not practice is that the outdoors are a great place to work, eat and play. Although the living space is small, we have full intentions of experiencing the outdoors. Playgrounds, exploring, bike riding, dirt digging, fishing, and hiking are just a small amount of things that most RV campgrounds offer within feet of the camper.
When do you leave?
We have set a date for June 15th, 2020.
Where are you headed?
We have goals of hitting all 48 contiguous United States. We will begin heading straight north for the summer months, Northeast for the fall, South for the winter, and West for the spring.
Are you living in a big bus-type RV?
No- we are living in a horse trailer. KIDDING! We are living in a 5th-wheel trailer. The bus-type is called a Class A or a Class C, and although they are great, they do not fit our needs.
Where are you ending up?
Ah, the most difficult question of all. We have opted to put aside the decisions on our final destination at this point, as there are so many complicating factors to this. We will be re-visiting this decision after we have officially left for full-timing!
Answering questions about this is truly a joy for us, as we love to engage about the experience we are about to embark on! Please continue to ask all the things. We love it!
