Bar Harbor, Maine!

Oh Bar Harbor has my heart! I spent a few weeks, back in high school here and I have always looked back on that very fondly! I could not WAIT to get back there, and it lived up to every expectation!

We did a LOT of adventuring here. The scenery was AMAZING, the weather was PERFECT and we just couldn’t get enough of the fresh air. And in case you are wondering, YES, I took a LOT of pictures! So many, I don’t even now how to share them all! LOL

With all the great things we did, I’m going to avoid multiple blog posts by breaking this down by adventuring we did.

First of all, our campground. We stayed at Hadley’s Point Campground. It was a great spot – close to downtown with a very easy access to grocery shop and run errands away from Bar Harbor. The campground owners were great and the campground is clean and very wooded. The overall campground experience was great.

Next is hiking. LOTS of hiking! We hiked Acadia National Park, hiked to Thunder Hole, hiked to the top of Gorham Mountain, hiked on the back side of the Island to see all of the tide pools, and hiked across the sand bar, (which gives Bar Harbor the name), which is only visible during low tide, to Mount Desert Island. So. Much. Hiking.

Next is starting home-schooling…. we officially began while at Bar Harbor!

Of course, we had sweet Benjamin’s mishap. Falling off of the monkey bars did not serve him well, but the hospital ER (MDI Hospital) and ER staff, as well as the Orthopedic surgeon (Dr. Stuart Davidson) and staff in Bar Harbor, was fantastic. If you’re ever in Bar Harbor and have a broken bone – take heart! You are in good hands!

Another great thing about Bar Harbor – the friendships! We met some fantastic families! Some that are seasonal there, and some who are full-timers, and some who are just weekenders, but SHOULD be full-timers! Some that we KNOW we will see again! And how great is this – we even were able to leave our kids and just go have a minute to be adults without being “parents” for a minute! How great is that?!

We enjoyed lobster (by eating lobster rolls), riding on an afternoon schooner, and of course, being on the beach. The water is quite cold, but still wonderful to look at. We saw deer, dolphins, lots of snails, and crab.

I think it’s safe to say we LOVE Bar Harbor!

Until next time –
