Talk about the most interesting campground to date! It was so urban – we literally camped on a parking lot that had been converted into a campground!
We stayed at Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City, NJ. It was not the most peaceful location, but definetly the most interesting. To get there, it was a drive down main roads and small, bustling streets. The park itself was gated and guarded, so very safe! We could see the statue of liberty out of our kitchen window. We were also just a quick boat ride or subway ride from the city. It was perfect!
The first day, we took the ferry from this amazing old train station, to Ellis Island. We took sometime at Ellis Island to check out the museum and eat some lunch outdoors. After that, we took another ferry over to the Statue of Liberty. It was a beautiful day on the island!
After that, we spent the day seeing some things in the city. We took the kids to the Bull on Wall Street, we saw the Brooklyn Bridge, and we took the kids on their first subway ride back home.
Our second, and last day, in the city, we took the subway in. Our first stop was the Empire State Building. If you follow our facebook page, you may have seen Sydnee leading us to the top!
We took some pictures with NYPD, ate some lunch in the grass at Bryant Park, walked on the streets of Time Square, did some toy store shopping, and saw the tall sky scrapers in the evening fog.
It was a whirl wind two days, but we had so much fun! The most heartbreaking part was seeing how devastated the city is from Covid. So many stores were shut down…. some even with ads from March. Like everything was frozen in time. So crazy!
We also were forced to be out of the city by sundown, due to the protests occurring. We did see some happening, but nothing that felt unsafe. Some NYPD officers told us to be safely home by sundown…. so we happily obliged.
After 2 fun days…. we were off to Pennsylvania!
Until next time…
