Once we made our way safely out of NYC, we headed into Pennsylvania. We stayed at the Elizabeth Town/Hershey KOA. It was a beautiful little park – some little hiking trails, spread out spots, and we were there during a very quiet season. We were down the hill and had all the grass and playground to ourselves almost the entire time we were there. As we sometimes say “its really nice to own such a large grass field with a lovely playground in our backyard”. LOL
We knew this spot would be very central for all of the things we wanted to do here. We started with getting a cast off of a healed little boy! Yahoo – that was an exciting day! All-in-all we saw 4 different doctors in this process, among 3 different states. Every doctor was so willing to work with our situation and was so wonderful to us and, most importantly, Benjamin. We are very grateful to each of them!
We learned a very important lesson during this week: do NOT leave the brand new detergent bottle on TOP of the washer/dryer. It WILL shake it off and it MAY break and spill the entire bottle…. everywhere. Yikes. That was like cleaning up good smelling sludge. Our floor has never been more clean!
We decorated for Halloween, celebrated a birthday, and played tons with our frisbee pup.
After arriving, I did some research about the Hershey area. I knew there was some chocolate factory tours, but I did not realize how MUCH there was to do! Like…. the entire amusement park. LOL
We spent the first part of our Hershey day in the factory – they have a free “ride” to tour the factory and learn how they make their chocolate candies.
We then spent the remainder of our day at Hershey Park! And good news: they did a disability pass for us, just as Disney does. We waited in very minimal lines! It was phenomenal!
Benjamin even rode his first roller coaster – and loved it. We went back and rode it at night. (Note: they turned off all of the lights for Halloween, on this specific coaster. It made it so intense we all decided it was too scary. LOL)
Hershey also had some trick-or-treating in the park after it was dark. So the kids brought costumes and got some yummy candy!
Another day we went to Gettysburg and saw the battlefields and the area by bikes. It was a beautiful day and we rode until sundown. What a sobering area to visit. So many of the infamous leaders of our country fought here. Visiting all of these battlefields makes us realize how blessed we are to be Americans and how many men died to fight for what we have.
Next up: Philadelphia!
