A little background on this memorial… this is the location of the plane that crashed into a field during 9/11. If you have not watched the movie, or are unaware of the amazing story of this crash, you should check out the movie or read up on it. Here died some of the most brave souls! And as an aviation family, we felt it was important to go see the memorial. It was both difficult and beautiful. The memorial was very well done and had a very nice sense of peace. If you have never taken a minute to go visit this spot, do it. It is always humbling to see such patriotism and bravery that has occurred in our country!
At the top of the hill is a small museum of information and artifacts from the crash site. This was a little intense! This also led out to a look-out spot where the plane made impact.
The building and long “wall of names” are placed in the flight path of the airplane. There has been a large boulder placed at the spot of impact. This is closed off to the general public – only family members are allowed to walk out to it. The entire walk around the buildings and the crash site is over a mile long. It is lined with beautiful trees, strategically placed to change colors in the fall.
There was a little nook where people had left little trinkets in honor of those who passed away here.
We ended up making this stop on our way out of Hershey and on our way to Virginia. We are so glad we took the time to do this!
Until next time,
