The Upper Peninsula of Michigan!

It’s true… I am nearing 4 weeks behind on blog updates. But wow, have we done a lot! We just completed our first week of a whole lot of nothing – so I am finally catching up on sleep and to-do lists! Top on that are all my blog updates!

So that leads me to….. the U.P.!

Our first glimpse of the U.P. was the Mackinac Bridge!

We stayed at Straits State Park – right across the “Mighty Mac” Bridge. The park was very pretty with fun trails that led to beautiful views.

We spent the first full day in the U.P. doing some site-seeing. First stop: The Soo Locks! This is where large (and small) ships can move between Lake Superior and the Lower Great Lakes. We were able to see one small tug boat move into the locks, but it did appear the Locks were having some maintenance done. So that was all we saw.

Next up was the Tahquamenon Falls. These are one of the largest waterfalls east of the Mississippi river! We hiked all around the park and took in the pretty views!

We also did a little swimming in the river that leads to the falls. This may have been Benjamin’s favorite activity.

The next big day was our day on Mackinac Island. This is my FAVORITE place in the USA! David and I did visit here a few years back, but this time we got to bring our kids and my parents! No cars are allowed on the island, which makes for a very interesting place! We took the ferry there and then we biked around the island and enjoyed the sites.

The best island story I have…. well, to bike around the island, it takes 8.2 miles. Unfortunately much of it was closed, due to erosion. So we got approximately 4 miles around when Conner blew a tire! We were literally as far as we could get around the island when we had to figure out how to get him, and his bike, the 4 miles back!

We ended up putting him on the front of my bike and David carried his bike, while pedaling, the whole way back. It was a LOT of work and we definitely earned all the ice cream and fudge after that!

Our final few days were spent with lots of family time, ice cream treats, good food and fireworks!

We LOVE the U.P. It is gorgeous and full of so many fun things to do!

Until next time!
